Health Education

MOMS offers an array of Health Education classes onsite, virtually, and through partnerships with other organizations throughout Orange County. Our classes are free and provide group-based education and support during pregnancy, postpartum, and early childhood. Meet other parents and gain knowledge, confidence, and support for your parenting journey.

Prenatal Classes

Childbirth Preparation

This series prepares expectant parents and their birthing coach for labor and delivery, with information on pregnancy anatomy and descriptions of the labor and birth process as well as pain management and relaxation techniques. Dads, coaches and/or a support person are encouraged to attend. We recommend taking these classes early in your third trimester.

Breastfeeding Class

This class covers basic information and education about breastfeeding including positioning, feeding techniques, how to store breast milk and when to seek support if you are struggling. Dads, coaches and/or a support person are encouraged to attend.

Preparing for Motherhood

This class builds skills and provides education to prevent postpartum depression, using an evidence-based curriculum: Reach Out Stay Strong Essentials for new mothers. Topics include how to identify warning signs for postpartum depression, manage stress in the transition to motherhood, build a strong support system, redefine expectations for self and relationships, and develop resources to support your mental health and wellbeing.

Waiting with Love

In this series, you and your partner or support person will be given the opportunity to reflect on and explore your expectations about pregnancy, labor and delivery, and your changing roles. You will hear from guest speakers including a doula and fatherhood specialist and have a safe space to ask questions and make informed decisions alongside other expectant parents. You and your partner will be given the tools necessary to prepare for a positive, fulfilling, and empowering childbirth experience.

Postpartum Classes and Support Groups

Postpartum Support Group

Transitioning from pregnancy to motherhood is not easy and often doesn’t fit your picture of what you thought it would be or what you wanted it to be. Our weekly support group provides an opportunity to join other new moms to ask questions and receive support. Our group are always led free of judgment, with care, love, and support.

Healthy Woman

Our Healthy Woman class is the start of a journey toward lifelong self-care. It equips participants with essential skills including stress management, healthy communication, and how to get community support. From recognizing signs of stress to prioritizing personal needs, this class aims to empower women for a healthier life.

Lactation Support Group

Our bilingual lactation support group is offered monthly to provide a space to gather and receive support from other moms and our trained lactation counselor.

Early Childhood Classes

Mommy & Me Classes

Learn activities to stimulate your baby’s mental and physical development. Mothers and babies come together in a fun, creative and supportive group environment. After graduating from Mommy & Me classes, you will have a toolbox of developmental activities to do at home or with a playgroup.

My Family & Me Classes

Parents or other family members and caregivers (such as a grandparent or a close friend) and babies come together in a fun, creative and supportive group environment. Some of the topics covered are the benefits of talking and communicating emotions with baby, the importance of reading, and why it’s crucial to limit media exposure time at an early age. This class is filled with lots of fun songs and hands on activities!

My Grandparents & Me Classes

This class is specifically designed for grandparents with the goal of strengthening family ties, offering grandparents up-to-date knowledge about child care, and providing a community of support for those who participate actively in caring for their grandchildren.

Opening Doors

The Opening Doors/Abriendo Puertas curriculum strengthens parent leadership, fostering improved outcomes for families, children, and communities at large. This parent leadership program is designed for parents with children aged 0-5 years. The curriculum covers various essential topics, including early brain development, literacy, social-emotional learning, and more. One of its primary objectives is to assist parents in preparing their children for school and education.

Fatherhood Classes

Strong Fathers, Strong Families

This class series, crafted by fathers for fathers, offers a safe and confidential space for discussing crucial topics such as fatherhood, healthy relationships, and raising sons and daughters. Fathers will acquire skills and mindfulness techniques to enhance patience, improve communication, and manage stress in a healthy way. Join a community of fathers that are striving to be the best fathers they can be.
